Business Not As Usual

In a business forum several years ago, Singaporean technopreneur and founder of Creative Technologies, Mr. Sim Wong Hoo, was asked a question on why Singapore didn’t produce that many entrepreneurs and technopreneurs like himself. He replied candidly by introducing this phrase called, “No U-turn Syndrome” or “NUTS” in short.

He used the “U-turn” road sign as an analogy to contrast how people were wired up in Singapore and in the United States. In Singapore, when drivers wanted to make a U-turn, they looked for a U-turn sign to make a U-turn, whereas in the United States, drivers made their own judgement call and did a U-turn anywhere along the road unless there was a sign that said “No U-turn”. Mr. Sim explained that this subtle difference was perhaps what inhibited the creativity and initiative of Singaporeans back then.

One reason you do a U-turn is because the direction you’re heading doesn’t take you to your intended destination and you need to change it. Interestingly, Jesus also did a “U-turn” on his parents in Luke 2:41-49. Since young, He’d follow them to Jerusalem every year to celebrate the Feast of the Passover. But when He turned 12, He changed direction.

He broke away from His family’s “as was the custom” routine (v.42) which they subscribed to all these years and instead of making the journey home after the celebration, He stayed back in Jerusalem to engage the teachers of the law, listening to them and asking them questions.

And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers (v.47). That day, Jesus did “something new and bold” at 12-yrs-old! “12 is the new 21!” God’s moving wonderfully and powerfully amongst our children!

Are you travelling on a road called “Comfortable” or cruising on the “Highway of Status Quo” where many are? Is God’s Word in your heart still “a burning fire” like it used to be (Jer 20:9)? If not, it’s time to make a change.

In case you’re not aware, our world has a “usual” or “customary” way of defining success by the amount of material wealth you have – fame, power, numbers and crowds, etc. But we don’t live by the world’s definitions. Jesus has set us free from that. We now live by God’s definition. Your identity is found in a Person, not possessions. Your identity is in “who you are” in Christ, not “what you have”. The more you “hang out” and commune with Jesus, the more secure you’ll be.

Moses and his “burning bush experience” is another example. He also did a similar “U-turn” on his daily shepherding routine in Exodus 3:1-5. He was leading his father-in-law’s flock at the back of the desert when he noticed a strange phenomenon – the bush was burning with fire, but it was not consumed. Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight” (v.3) and when God saw that he had stopped in his tracks and “changed direction” from his usual routine, God called out to him (v.4) and declared the place where they spoke as “holy ground” (v.5).

The Kingdom Invasion Conference is a “burning bush experience” for me on many accounts. It’s a “holy ground” and a “launch pad” to the Desti-Nations. It’s a place where heaven invades earth with its reality, power and revelation truth; a convergence of the apostolic and the prophetic; powerful teachings and healing impartations. In fact, it’s a holy convocation.

Isaiah 43:19-20 (NKJV) says, “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert… I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen.”

How do you “behold” something unless you stop what you’re doing and change direction towards what you want to see? If you’ve not “turned aside” and looked at this burning bush (Kingdom Invasion 2018), I want to encourage you to seriously consider signing up without hesitation. God will make a way for you to come if you so desire to. Be it financially or taking time off, He’ll make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert for you, to be refreshed and recharged, to give you a renewed mind and be filled with a larger vision. You’ll be blessed!

There’s never been a dull moment or a “business as usual” mode in the Kingdom Invasion Conferences (KI). Every KI is unique and special. God always surprises us with many wonderful encounters. I’m looking forward with great anticipation to what the Lord is going to do in this year’s conference. Don’t miss out on what He wants to do in you and through you this season. This is your moment, so come alive! Sign up now.

Have a blessed week ahead.
